Ever Baked Your Own Matzah?

18…17…16… Can you bake that Matzah before the dough rises?

Welcome to the Springfield Matzah Factory!

We have created a hands-on experience, so you can create your own Matzah from the very beginning through the eating.

Start by cutting, threshing, and grinding actual wheat into flour. You read that right, there will be stalks of wheat, millstones, brick ovens (ok, those are not real), and everything you would find in an old-style Hand-Made-Round-Matzah Bakery.

Traditional Matza is round and hand baked, in contrast to the uniform store-bought, square variety most people are familiar with.

The eating of the Matzah is one of the most essential moments – its completion a fundamental law – of the upcoming holiday of Passover because it commemorates the extraordinary haste with which the Israelites left Egypt. Speed that did not allow enough time for their dough to rise before they set out across the desert, leaving the unleavened (unrisen) flat bread we still eat at Passover thousands of years later.

This year, everyone (really, not just kids, but teens, adults and seniors as well) can gather in the Chabad center right here in Springfield to make their own Matzah.

Each family will schedule their own private 30-minute session to enjoy this fun, one-of-a-kind Passover learning experience together.

And, naturally, this is all available free of charge!

RSVP by emailing matzah@chabadspringfield.com or calling 217-441-3291. And do it soon, because there are only so many half-hours in a day and they will fill up fast.
